Millennials will make up more of the global workforce than any other generation by 2020. They are “more likely to combine a career with a personal brand” and “are using social media more than ever before” according to The Economist. This article discusses some of the thoughts of millennials on their dream design property and how they want it to fit into their lifestyle.
Believe it or not, Design has been around for thousands of years, but with each new generation, new ideas have been brought in that have shaped what we currently know as Design today.
Millennials are the generation that is now coming into the workforce.
This is the generation that was born in the ’80s and ’90s, therefore they are currently in their early-20s or late 20’s.
The Design world has seen many faces over the years, but none as influential as those of millennials. What makes millennials different? Well for starters, they’re technology savvy. They’ve been listening to music and watching movies on smartphones even before it became cool. They know what they want and how to get it through social media. They’re not afraid of taking risks either because of their generation: “The first new U.S. generation to come of age at the same time as the Internet is more likely to combine a career with a personal brand. This group wants to make their own rules, not follow someone else’s.”
Millennials are using social media more than ever before
. They are influencing people every other day on their social media sites with business ideas, new products, etc. by showing them what they want. It’s because of this that millennials are seen as the next biggest influencers in Design today. Designers must be able to understand what millennials want or need are if they ever want their design for an upcoming project to be successful.
Millennials are quickly becoming set in their ways. They have a certain way of going about things and being specific. Back in the day, a Design Program would have a different name for a program, it might be “The Graphic Design Program” but now they call it “2-D Digital Imaging” or “Interactive Web Design.” It’s because of their quick thinking that millennials are the ones setting trends for the future, not just in Design but in Business as well.
Millennials are known to be technology savvy.
The CEO of Google says that if you’re over 30 you don’t know what you don’t know. Once again, the millennials take this to an even greater level. They know what they want and how to get it. Their quick thinking ability as well as their technology is what makes them so influential in the Design industry.
Millennials are open-minded and willing to take risks.
This ability to be open-minded is attributed to the “technology savvy” that they have. They know that there’s a little truth behind everything which is why they’re not afraid of taking a risk once they know that what they want is possible with one little change. A small change can totally change the outcome of something.
One last reason why millennials are influential in the Design world is because of their willingness to learn new things. They keep up with trends and new technologies by studying different ways of doing things.
